Her name is Malala Yousafzai

Hi Beauties!

Welcome to Melissa’s Motivational Monday, where I bring you encouragement and inspiration ❤

Today is a special day in honor of an amazing young woman.

Two days ago, she turned 17.

A year and nine months ago, she was shot for doing something she believed in … her right to get an education.

On October 9, 2012, a gunman boarded her school bus, asked for Malala by name, then pointed a gun at her and fired three shots.

Why would such a thing happen?

They feared education would give her power.

(And I ask, why would that be so terrible?)

It’s hard to imagine.

We take education for granted here in the US, and yes, our public school system here is hot mess at times, but I still can’t imagine living in a situation where I’m told that I can’t go to school. Because I’m a girl.

Fun facts:

Madonna dedicated her song “Human Nature” to Malala at a concert in Los Angeles the day of the attack.

Angelina Jolie donated $200,000 to The Malala Fund for girls education.

We can change the world. But we can’t just stand quietly by and wait for it to happen.

It’s hard sometimes to swallow this pill, but only YOU are responsible for your actions. And that’s a huge responsibility!

It’s easier to think that other people will do the work, than to do something about it ourselves.

Here’s your call to action this week:

Step One: Identify what it is that you want to change. What are you pushing out of your world, because you don’t want to face it? What thought makes you feel uncomfortable, because it’s not in your butterflies-and-rainbows-and-pretending-everythings-perfect world?

Step Two: I want to hear from all of you, dear readers! Leave a comment below and answer these questions: How does Malala’s story inspire you? What are you #StrongerThan?

When we gather together and take a stand…

When we raise our voices…

We are stronger than fear, stronger than hatred, stronger than ignorance, and stronger than violence.

Share this #StrongerThan hashtag on social media –  Let’s stand together to make a change.

To your unabashed strength and courage to face life,

Melissa
