When it comes to choosing the right dress for a special occasion, it can be sometimes challenging. There are situations when you know exactly what you want, the design, color etc. If you are not looking for something specific then this is when things get more complicated. When you know exactly what you want to buy you strike with precision and go! If time is not on your side and you feel overwhelmed by the many options offered out there, don’t panic!

Here are few pointers that should help you when it comes to choosing the perfect dress:

Design/Shape

This is always a great pointer to go by and most important. When deciding what dress to get you should know how elegant the venue and the event is, also how much you want to stand out. Do you want to go over the top and have a long dress? Would you prefer a more simple knee/ above the knee dress. Once you have decided on the length you should focus on the cut/shape of the dress. It is very important that you pick a dress that advantages your body and accentuates your best features. Try to think of what you want to diminish or enhance. If you are shorter for example, to give the illusion of being taller you could choose long dress with a pair of very high heels, which will elongate your silhouette. If you are very thin you could wear a flared dress that will add movement and shape. Know your body as well as what you want to accentuate or hide.

Color

Once you know what type of dress you are looking for (long, short, tight, flawy) you can decide on the color. The color again should be something that advantages you. It is said that there are some general, certain colors that look great on everybody. If possible you should try to go beyond that and chose something that enhances your skin, brings out your eyes, and goes great with your hair color. If you have dark brown hair and olive skin for example, a deep emerald dress would work great for you as it would accentuate your features. If you have blonde hair and fair/medium skin, a rich red dress would be great for you and for sure you will turn eyes. Remember to keep your skin tone and hair color in mind. For some that have deep blue eyes, some certain blue hues might be great.

Occasion

Once you have the design/shape and color for your dress in mind, you want to make sure it is appropriate for the occasion/event you are attending. If you like to dress up and usually feel better being over-dressed than under-dressed than you might always incline to pick something on the fancier side. Remember you do not want to go overboard, otherwise you will end up looking tacky and strange. Some prefer something more simple and they choose to go for a simple yet elegant cut/shape but the color if it fits perfect with their features it will make the ultimate statement.

The key when assorting your dress for the event is to know also how to pair up with jewelry and accessories. If you have a sparkly dress with a  lot of detail then, you want to keep the jewelries at a minimum. If your dress is more simple then you want to play up the accessories. Add detail and sparkly by choosing bigger earrings that stand out or other jewelry pieces.
