It’s Motivational Monday!

‘Tis the season everyone!

MM 4

I hope everyone one had a wonderful Thanksgiving with you friends, family and loved ones. I know I did and I’m still full of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie (gluten and milk free of course!)

With the holidays quickly approaching, I know how easy it is to cheat on your diet. I am guilty of it too. Even though that cookie may be amazing at the moment you will pay the price later on, and today I want to motivate all of you readers to make the healthier choices during this holiday season.

By no means am I saying forgo the glazed ham, chocolate trifle, doughnuts, eggnog or your aunt’s notorious fruitcake, but there are ways to compensate for stuffing your face this season.

Tip #1

Portion control: instead of going back for seconds and thirds, why not limit it to one additional trip and make the portions smaller your second time around. Another suggestion is to use a salad or lunch sized plate instead of a dinner plate.

Tip #2

Ginger: ginger is great for digestion, inflammation and preventing colds. Eating sugary foods that our bodies are not used to consuming can be harmful to our bodies. Ginger can help compensate by promoting digestion, helping alieve nausea and lowers inflammation. Travel lowers the immune system as well, which is why I carry a Gin- Gins bar or drops with me wherever I go. This brand makes pure ginger bars or even little ginger candies that you can throw in your bag.

Tip #3

Fruits and Vegetables: make sure to eat enough of these food groups, especially during the holiday. Instead of snaking on carbs like cookies, pick up a banana, apple  or if you are on the go, a That’s It bar. One is supposed to eat 7-11 servings of fruit and vegetables per day, something that doesn’t happen often enough around the holidays. By doing this, not only will you stay fuller at meals but stave away all those unwanted holiday pounds. Fruit
