Meet Lindsay Rae: Founder of the Self Love Experience

Society tells women that we have to fit into this tiny narrow minded mold of what is considered beautiful. Meet today’s boss babe Lindsay Rae. Lindsay helps women overcome body insecurity and trauma to reclaim their worth through Self Love Experience Photography sessions. Lindsay’s focus is body image self confrontation, overcoming body insecurity and seeing yourself as more than scars of your past. She believes confidence in the skin you are in trickles into every aspect and relationship in your life. The Self Love Experience gives women permission to feel beautiful exactly as they are.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in business and how have you overcome them?

I had four major confrontations with myself to get to be to where I am now, four major defining conflicts that steered the course of my entire life. Those are my physical confrontations, confronting how I feel about how I look. Those are my mental confrontations, for me, that’s battling PTSD and anxiety with a lovely little bit of a depression sprinkled in there just for flavor. Then there’s emotional confrontations, how I interact with the world around me, how  I read what other people are truly saying and manage it’s  impact on me, and how my interactions with others guide how I move through the world and what I needed to change with myself in order to make those be easier and more pleasant and more fruitful relationships and emotional connections. Then the last one is financial Confrontion. Everything really ties back to money. I hate saying that, because people say money isn’t everything but the truth of the matter is that without it you’re limited. To give yourself all of the opportunities that you deserve, you need to have finances and you need to have your finances in order. Like I told you in the introduction, I was illiterate financially. I couldn’t tell you how to balance a checkbook or how to calculate taxes until I was in my mid twenties. These are things that you should really learn when you’re younger, because if you learn when you’re younger, then you won’t spend your entire adulthood having to confront yourself and learn how to fix your finances. But I digress. The four major confrontations. Physicality, mentality, emotions and finances. Physically, how you feel and relate to your physical body. Emotionally, how you relate to others. Mentally, how you relate to yourself. Lastly financially, how you value yourself. I’m excited to deep dive each of these topics and share my stories as the time comes!

What can the public do to support equality in business leadership?

More women need to start their own businesses.  The more we make ourselves the majority of the pie and not the minority, the more it becomes impossible to deny women the leadership roles they rightfully deserve

Who has been the biggest influence in your life that has inspired you to see that women DO belong in leadership positions?

Kamala Harris has inspired me. So much so that I have “I’m Speaking.” tattooed on my forearm.

What sets you and your business apart?

Stemming from a toxic abusive upbringing with a family on welfare to building a multiple six figure business selling my art in NY, my focus is body image, self confrontation, overcoming body insecurity and seeing yourself as more than scars of your past.  We help women from 21 – 75+ feel confident and beautiful exactly as they are.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with other female entrepreneurs?

Always pay your business, taxes and savings before yourself.

What projects are you working on right now?

I am still photographing women and empowering them with my art 3 days a week, but I am also in the beginning process of starting my first book.  This book will be my underdog / survivors tale

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

My plan is to retire from shooting and focus fully on public speaking in the next 5 years.  I am on a mission to help as many women as I possibly can to feel confident in their skin here and now. I am a “5 year plan” kind of woman.  I work best when I have far out goals that hold me accountable to myself.
