I recently had the chance to interview Cassie Huffman. Cassie is the winner of the 2016 Miss Teen North Carolina title, and is busy preparing for the Miss United States pageant in July 2016! Luckily, she had a moment to share her story, some beauty tips, and her passion to serve her community with Lady Code. I hope her interview inspires you!

What projects do you have going on at the moment?
I am currently working on putting together a food drive with Pre-Teen NC United States, Angeline Hoang. We both share the platform of Feeding America, and by working together on this project we can raise more awareness throughout North Carolina.
You are a very busy titleholder! What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day includes class in the mornings at Catawba Valley Community College where I am receiving my Entrepreneurship Degree. The afternoon can range from homework, to preparing for Nationals in August, or working at a boutique called Merchants On Main. My evenings are spent teaching dance at Step Up Studio.
What has been the highlight of being Miss Teen North Carolina so far?
Just experiencing all of the love and support from my family, friends, and even strangers! Having this title has allowed me to meet so many new people, which is something I absolutely love.
What are some of your best beauty secrets to looking flawless all the time?
Beauty Sleep is a real thing, I promise! My sock bun is my best friend. A simple colored lipstick like Younique’s lip color Affluent keeps you looking fresh and doesn’t feel heavy for a long day’s work.
Growing up, who was your inspiration?
My Papaw Son has been a major inspiration in my life. He is the definition of “hard-working”. He’s 80 years young and still working as hard as he did when he was 25! My Papaw has taught me to work for what you want in life and to do it all for the Lord.
Lady Code has a focus on anti-bullying and women empowerment. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be victims of bullying?
Give it all to God! He is the one that takes care of our problems and he is in your corner every step of the way.
Tell us about your platform:
My platform is Feeding America. In 2014 I was able to travel to India for a mission trip, and that was a major wake-up call to see so many people struggling to find their next meal. This prompted me to research hunger in my own country which lead me to Feeding America. I have volunteered at Cooperative Christian Ministries (my local food bank), Meals On Wheels, and my local soup kitchen.
What can Lady Code readers do in their communities to get involved?
Volunteering at your local soup kitchen and food bank is very important and such a humbling experience. If you can’t give your time, a monetary donation is always appreciated at any organization. It really opens your eyes to the fact that hunger is in your own community and not just in third-world countries.
In your free time, what do you enjoy doing?
I love just spending time with my friends and family. The people in my life are very important to me, and with me always being on-the-go it’s tough to find time to see them, but when I do, I soak up every minute of it.
Can you tell us about your 5 year plan?
Honestly, I have trouble planning what I’m going to eat for dinner, much less the next 5 years! However, I hope to be traveling the world while preparing to open my own dance studio. I also hope to have danced on a professional sports dance team such as the Panthers TopCats or the Charlotte Hornets.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
I was once told that not everyone is going to like the things I do or support every choice I make, but as long as I am pleasing the Lord and myself then that’s all that matters!
