When you think about vinegar, nothing special comes to mind. Sure, it is mainly used for cooking to refresh the taste of some foods and that’s pretty much it. If you are like me, maybe you won’t even enjoy the taste or smell of it and want to keep it away as far as possible. Until recently, little did I know about its many properties and versatility! Vinegar can be used in many different ways that are beneficial to your health and beauty!
Let’s find out how:
Hydrates your skin
If not taken care of properly, your skin can dehydrate very easily. Recently due to sun exposure and spending a lot more time in the pool, I have noticed that my skin has dehydrated. The chlorine in the pool water as well as the chemically treated water from the shower contributed to this. Lotion of course helps (I recommend the spray lotions by St. Ives, as they work wonders and are very light). If you enjoy taking long relaxing baths and doing body scrubs, it is recommended that you add a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath water. This helps moisturize your skin and it abundantly hydrates it. Once you are finished with your bath you can add on some lotion and voila, your skin should feel refreshed and hydrated.
Facial Toner
Homemade beauty products are my favorite as they are all natural, which is better for your skin. I have used toners from many different companies (Lancome, Estee Lauder, etc) however, I was never fully satisfied as they irritated and dehydrated my skin. I have combination skin, which is also very sensitive. Any change in my beauty routine shows on my skin. I recently tried this, and fell in love with it. This toner can be easily prepared as well as used whenever desired. You will need 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and two cups of water. Mix thoroughly and it is ready to be applied. The toner is usually recommended to be applied after you have washed your face and before adding the serum and cream moisturizer. This natural toner should keep your skin looking fresh and radiant.
Hair Mask
This was quite interesting for me to discover but once I tried it, my hair loved it! This all natural hair mask can be made in no time in the comfort of your home. All you will need is 2 egg whites, 2 table spoons of olive oil, and 1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix the ingredients until you have a homogenous substance. Apply to your hair from the mid-shaft down, paying extra attention to the ends (do not apply to the roots). Keep this on for 25-40 minutes and rinse with warm water. This should leave your hair hydrated and luminous.
Color Refresher
If you have chemically treated hair, exposure to the sun as well as the hot tools can be detrimental to it by striping it of its shine. We have all been there and experienced our color fade sooner than it should have, therefore having to make another trip to the salon just to tone our hair. This little trick is actually one of my favorite as it helps your hair regain its luster. After shampooing and conditioning your hair, rinse with cold water and add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. This should refresh as well as protect your color.
As you can see, I have changed my opinion about vinegar as I have discovered it has many attributes.
One more little trick…
Vinegar removes any stains that might be on your skin due to sun exposure or other environmental factors. All you have to do is apply apple cider vinegar to the sun spots then after 30 minutes rinse. Repeat as desired until you are satisfied with how your skin looks!
You should try this as well! It will have positive results 🙂
