Create your own lip balm

Ladycode loves homemade, natural cosmetics, as we have posted before recipes for homemade face masks, and we will shortly be posting another article on homemade face masks with fruits that are great this spring. Today we would like to talk about homemade lip balms that are natural and very moisturizing.

The lips are an important feature of your face therefore you should take care of them accordingly. Chapped and cracked lips are unattractive but sometimes in spite that we  use lip-balms or chapsticks, the condition still does not improve. An interesting fact that I have recently learned was that chapsticks actually create dependency and they over dry the lips.  Once you stop using them, your lips will be more chapped than what you started with.

In my case, I have very small lips and as I was researching on how to make them bigger, I found out that it is essential to always keep them moisturized. While they are moisturized, those little cracks fill and therefore your lips look slightly fuller and more plumped. I started using an advanced Lip-Fix cream by Elizabeth Arden and it worked for a while, it’s just like lotion designed for the lips.  However,  after a while my lips were getting used to the product and I was not as content with it. That is why I prefer natural, homemade products where I know the ingredients that go into the product.

If you have the time and like natural homemade products, I would recommend you try these:

Shea Butter Lip-Balm

  • 2 table spoons of coconut oil
  • 1 table  spoon beeswax
  • 1 table spoon shea butter
  • 1 table capsule of vitamin E

All of the ingredients except for the Vitamin E are melted and mixed together until a homogenous substance is created, subsequently the vitamin E is added.  After the vitamin E is added all of the ingredients are mixed together and blended. Once mixed you can choose a container where you would like to keep the lip balm, and you are all set!

Cocoa Butter Lip-Balm

  • 1 table spoon of olive oil
  • 1 table spoon of coconut oil
  • 1 table spoon beeswax
  • 1 table spoon shea butter
  • 1 capsule of vitamin E

Just like before all of the ingredients are mixed together until you have a homogenous substance, then the vitamin E is added. After all of the ingredients are mixed together you can choose a container of your choice where you would like to keep the lip balm.

Both of these lip balm recipes are very moisturizing and as they are natural they do not create dependency.  They heal and moisturize dry lips as well as have a really good flavor.

Along with the lip balm, when you go out or if you have a special occasion, you can choose to add your favorite lip-gloss or lipstick.  In my case to have extra plump I choose to add a lip plumper. I have tried several ones from Boxom, Dior, or Two-Faced, which can all be found at Sephora. Currently I was recommended the O-Plump by Smashbox, which I just started using. Will keep you posted on how it goes!

Hope you found these lip-balm recipes useful.

xoxo 🙂
